The Winona Fire Department has a new stone sign outside its West Fire Station in honor one of its veteran firefighters.  The new sign was placed there in honor of firefighter George Hoeppner in recognition of his 35 years of service to the department.
                   
It's the result of a collective effort by the family of George Hoeppner, the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 575, and the Biesanz Stone Company.  The fire department has also extended its gratitude to the Hoeppner family for its generous monetary gift.
                   
The West Station is located at West Broadway and Cummings Street.
