Failing Septic Systems

The Winona County Soil and Water Conservation District is alerting county property owners that August 17th is the deadline for filing preliminary applications for assistance in addressing failing septic systems.

The district is currently working on a Clean Water Fund grant proposal to help landowners address this environmental and health threat.  Qualifying applicants may receive up to 95% cost-share for the voluntary replacement of their failing septic systems if the SWCD is funded by the state.

Priority for the replacement will be given to to systems that are deemed an "imminent threat to public health."

If you are interested in applying for grant funds you must contact Bree Maki at the Winona County Soil and water Conservation District office in Lewiston at 523-2171, extension 101.  The application does not guarantee funding.  Applicants must be the owner and occupier of the residence.
