Winona High Hires New Activities Director

Winona Area Public School has selected a new activities director and they are staying close to home for their next AD. Winona native Brad Berzinski will take over as activities director for Clark Jones who resigned from the AD position after just one year on the job. Berzinski is a 1999 graduate of Winona High where he was a three-sport athlete.

Prior to being named the activities director Berzinski was a high school social studies teacher and an assistant coach in football, basketball, and baseball. Berzinski says he has mixed emotions about becoming the athletic director because he liked the day-to-day contact you get with kids being a teacher and a coach.

Berzinski thinks one of his biggest challenges is continuing to do more with less. In the lean economic times he’ll have to figure out ways to continue to improve facilities and programs. He knows that the tennis court situation at the high school will need to be addressed and he would like to see the press box at Paul Giel Field get redone. Berzinski noted that the gymnasium is getting a big facelift with a new gym floor, new paint, brand new scoreboards and a new sound system.  In addition to battling the challenges of budgets, Berzinski says he would like to try and get kids to do to more activities and not just be focused on one sport.
