Alma Building Lots
Alma Mayor Robert Scow has advised getting rid of the Alma Building Lots restrictive building conditions and offering Shawnee Estates home building lots for reasonable prices.
Scow got backing of the city council's finance committee this week to take a fresh look at selling the city-owned subdivision lots and getting them on the tax roll. The 32 acre subdivision, set aside for industrial development, was rezoned to residential property for some 30 building lots 12 years ago.
Nearly all of the lots remain vacant and unsold. The city had expected to sell them quickly for prices up to $14,000 per lot when the subdivision was approved in 2000. Scow said it made more sense to sell the lots cheaply, if necessary, to get homes built and producing tax revenue.
