The Winona Port Authority Thursday moved a step closer to funding a $30,000 request from the Winona Area Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber is seeking the funds to help support its Winona Main Street Program which includes plans to revitalize the downtown area.
City Manager Judy Bodway said the request remains in the Port Authority's 2013 proposed budget but the funds are contingent on a special agreement being reached with the Chamber.
Chamber President Della Schmidt told the Port Authority on June 28th, the Chamber's plan is to establish a $50,000 budget for the Main Street Program with the Chamber putting up the remaining $20,000.
Bodway said she expects negotiations on an agreement with the Chamber to be completed sometime this fall so the program could start next year.
