Bridge Update Expected

The Minnesota Department of Transportation says they should have a "substantial update" on the Highway 43 bridge proect when it holds a stakeholders' meeting on the project in September.

The department created a Project Advisory Committee as soon as planning for the bridge began nearly three years ago.  That committee has not met for over a year, but officials now say the group will meet next month at Minnesota State College - Southeast Technical.

Plans for upgrading Winona's Mississippi River crossing have been under review since the first of this year by the Federal Highway Administration and the State Office of Historic Preservation.  Mn-DOT says the focus of its review has centered on rehabilitating the current bridge.  City officials, recently, have turned to federal officials to call for a new bridge.
