The Seven Rivers Alliance in La Crosse says a new multi-million dollar freight transportation facility in Winona will be opening in a few weeks.
In its newsletter, the Alliance, which includes members and businesses from Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa, says the facility near Pelzer Street, is slated to open this fall. Called the Seven Rivers Intermodel Terminals, LLC, it will be connecting multiple modes of transportation in one location.
Developer Rich Mikrut says it is designed to relieve bottlenecking at current intermodel facilities in Minneapolis and Chicago and speed up transportation. Containers will be brought to Winona to be placed on rail cars for shipment to other locations. Bringing the containers to Winona will eliminate higher costs and enable faster delivery compared to Minneapolis and Chicago.
Developers also see the facility bringing increased business and jobs to Winona. Port Logistics Incorporated will run the trucking side of the intermodal business.
