The Goodhue County County Board unanimously voted Thursday night to extend its moratorium on silica sand mining industry for another year after more than three hours of comment and debate before a crowd of about 70 people.
The Post-Bulletin reports the interim ordinance was scheduled to expire in September.
The decision follows the recommendation made by the county's planning commission, which unanimously approved that motion a few weeks ago.
All 26 citizens who spoke during Thursday's public comment period pushed for an extension of the moratorium, though many of them actually asked for the board to ban it altogether
