Hines and Distad--Assault

Winona Police said two Winona men were jailed Monday evening following an apparent road rage incident.

Charged with felony second degree assault were 19 year old Andrew Hines and 18 year old Dylan Distad.  Distad was also charged with reckless driving, obstructing the legal process and first degree damage to property.

Deputy Police Chief Tom Williams said the incident started about 5:15 p.m. at a service station on Mankato Avenue when one of the men waved a hammer and threatened a 38 year old Winona man.  That man then left the scene in a vehicle that was chased by a second vehicle occupied by Hines and Distaff.

Williams said the Distad and Hines vehicle then rearended the first vehicle at Sarnia and Hamilton Streets. The first vehicle tried leave again but was forced off the street and into a mailbox when it was struck again by the Hines and Disad vehicle.  No serious injuries were reported.

The case was turned over to the county attorney's office for determination of formal chages.
