Miller-Lawson--Assault

A Winona couple were both jailed on felony assault charges Wednesday evening following an incident in downtown Winona.

Deputy Police Chief Tom Williams said 48-year-old Dawn Miller and 50-year-old Ray Lawson are both accused of preliminary counts second degree assault, false imprisonment and deprivation of parental rights.  Williams said the two were involved in a child custody incident with a third woman in the 250 block of East Third about 11:00 p.m when police were summoned.

That third person, who had legal custody of the child, claimed she was struck by a vehicle driven by Miller, when she tried to prevent the vehicle from leaving with the child.  There were no serious injuries.

Williams said the woman was able to get the child back from the couple.
