The St. Stanislaus Koska parish in Winona will host a special event coming up on Sunday, September 9th, to celebrate its church being named a minor basilica by the Vatican.
A Celebration of Elevation will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the Basilica which is open to the public.
Deacon Justin Greene told a Winona Radio audience that the parish applied for the special papal honor on behalf of the parish's polish heritage and contributions in Winona dating back to the 1870's. St. Stan's is only the second basilica in the state and Greene says it's recognized by the Pope as being something special.
Greene says a special commemorative coffee table book is also being prepared for the event. The cost of the book will b $30.
