City Tax Levy
Winona city residents may see a 1.3 percent property tax levy increase in 2013 if a preliminary budget reviewed by he City Council this week is certified to the state later this fall.
City Manager Judy Bodway proposed a 38-point-5 million dollar budget and said much of the expenditures include large capital improvement projects like the 14-million dollar upgrades at the municipal airport, of which the city will pay 1-point-2 million.
Bodway said other projects include upgrading the Lake Park Bike Path, an addition to the city bus garage, a new 550-thousand dollar fire pumper truck, a new street sweeper, and several other projects.
Water and sanitary sewer rates are proposed to incease by 4-point-5 percent each in 2013 to adequately cover all expenses of the system.
The Council will review the preliminary budget next Tuesday, September 4th, at their regular meeting.
The 1-point-3 percent preliminary levy increase can then only be decreased, but not raised, prior to final approval in December.
