New Sand Mine Applications

Winona County has received to 2 new applications for sand mine permits in Saratoga Township.

County Planning and Environmental Services Director, Jason Gilman, says G-Cubed Engineering of Chatfield represents both private landowners and the applications are being reviewed for completeness. Gilman says if they are complete the applications will go to the County Planning Commission to consider as early as October.

William Yoder of Utica is proposing a 38.2 acre site and Roger Dablestein of St. Charles wants a permit for a 36.5 acre site. The total extraction capacity of both sites is 4-million cubic yards.

Gilman also says he received notice Thursday a citizens petition has been submitted to the Minnesota Environmental Quality Board in objection to the proposed  David Nisbit mining permit. That triggers an automatic Environmental Assessment Worksheet, which will delay any decision on that project, also located in Saratoga Township.
