Frac Roundabout

A frac sand mining company has proposed building a roundabout at the intersection of state highways 88 and 35 in the town of Milton to accommodate truck traffic for sand mining.

Lawyers and representatives of Glacier Sands and the Cochrane-Fountain City School District discussed traffic issues last week and plan to continue talks, according to C-FC Superintendent Tom Hiebert.

Efforts to resolve anticipated truck traffic concerns came in response to a recommendation by the Buffalo County Zoning Board of Adjustment after a hearing in August.

C-FC filed a lawsuit against the board of adjustment in August in an effort to overturn a sand mining permit issued to R & J Rolling Acres in the town of Gilmanton.

The Rolling Acres plan calls for trucking sand on Highway 88 to Highway 35 and south to Winona. Later Glacier Sands applications for a railway spur and sand drying plant in the vicinity of the C-FC school were denied......

A consortium of landowners now seeking sand mining permits in the town of Montana also proposes trucking sand on highways 88 and 35 to Winona.

The board of adjustment in August tabled those permits, known as 7 Sands, LLC, which also would be developed by Glacier Sands....
