Safe and Sober

Winona County law enforcement officers arrested eleven drunk drivers during the nationwide end of summer DWI enforcement effort that went from August 17th through September 3rd.

Around 400 law enforcement agencies took part in the Safe and Sober campaign across Minnesota.  Participating were agencies in Goodview, Lewiston, St. Charles the City of Winona, and the Winona County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff Dave Brand said the arrests from the campaign demonstrated that people are still making poor choices and putting roads in danger.

A DWI offense can result in the loss of the driver's license for up to one year and thousands of dollars in costs plus possible jail time.  There were 332 DWI arrests in Winona County in 2011.
