WSU Dorms
Winona State University on Friday will formerly dedicate one of its two new dormitories as it honors two graduates of the university.
WSU Vice President Jim Schmidt said the east building will be officially named Kirkland Hall in honor of Melvin and Lois Kirkland of the class of 1949.
Schmidt said, following their deaths, the Kirkland's estate made the largest-ever donation to date to WSU for scholarships, totaling 1-point-25 million dollars, and that's in addition to other donations they made over the years.
Schmidt said both spent many years as teachers in the Seattle, Washington, area before retiring to Hawaii.....
The dedication will start at 12:30 p.m. at the east dormitory, located along Mark Street, and at 12:30 p.m.
Both dorms were completed in 2010 and were the first new residence halls on the WSU campus since Sheehan Hall was completed in 1967.
