Planning Commission-Trucks

The Winona City Planning Commission Monday voted to have staff prepare a draft ordinance on possible threshold’s for new truck traffic in the city.

The Commission discussed possible traffic impacts and road wear in the city from future trucks hauling the sand, although the draft ordinance would cover ALL truck traffic, not just sand trucks.

Commisioner Luverne Olsen says sand businesses should not be singled out, considering it’s estimated by studies to make up only 15-percent of truck traffic in the city ...

Commisioner Pam Eyden said it’s vital that any study or ordinance addresses the public’s concern over too many trucks in the city.

The commission did not set an exact threshold number, although 100 trucks per day was the number the city’s Highway Engineer recommended. However, they will have that option at a later date to pass along to the City Council for consideration.
