Dakota Documentary
Winona State University will screen the documentary on the Dakota Indian War of 1862 Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. in the Student Activity Center at Kryszko Commons.
"Star Dreamers Part I: The Indian System - Causes of the 1862 War in Minnesota" .chronicles the events leading up to the Dakota War of 1862, and discusses how the United States' "Indian System" brought the Dakota to such a low point that they thought it would be better to die in a war than starve to death.
Sheldon P. Wolfchild, Dakota activist and artist, and Mark Diedrich, historian, will be present for commentary and a question and answer session following the screening.
The event is free and open to the public.
The 9th Annual Dakota Great Dakota gathering takes place this weekend, Friday through Sunday. in east lake park. It will commemorate the Dakota Conflict of 1862 which took place 150 years ago.....
