Winona Police said a 20-year old Winona man was cited with two felony assault counts, plus obstruction, disorderly conduct and damage to property after he allegedly spit on a police officer while being transported in a squad car.
Deputy Police Chief Tom Williams said officers believed James Marcus Monroe Redshaw was under the influence of a possible controlled substance when they were called to the 200 block of East Eighth Street Friday evening just before 10:00 p.m. Williams said officers observed Redshaw standing on a vehicle and then breaking the windshield with his foot.
When Redshaw was being transported to Winona Health in a squad car he allegedly spit on an officer. Williams said it took four officers to restrain Redshaw at the hospital. The case has been referred to the County Attorney's office for investigation of formal charges against Redshaw who was being held in jail.
