Nisbit Sand
The Winona County Board of Commissioners could decide on a permit for the county's first frac sand mine as soon as October 9th.
County Planning and Environmental Services Director Jason Gilman said board members could consider the permit on October 9th, when they formally react to a recommendation from the County Planning Commission to not require an environmental assessment worksheet on the David and Sherry Nisbit property in Saratoga Township.
Whatever action the board takes the county will have five working days to inform the Nisbits.
If a permit is issued, the 20-acre site would become the county's first operating sand mine.
Meanwhile, Gilman said two other applications for sand mine permits, also for properties inSaratioga Township, have been voluntarily pulled by the property owners so E-A-Ws can voluntarily be performed on both sites. One of the sites is 38 acres and the other is 36 acres.....
