Glacier Sands Statement-Permit

The sand mining company whose request for a permit to operate near Cochrane-Fountain City School was turned down by the Buffalo County Board of Adjustment on Wednesday, has issued a statement.  Spokesman Wayne Steinmetz said in an email his firm is deeply disappointed with the rejection of the proposed Seven Sands frac-sand mining operation.

Steinmetz said Glacier Sands continues to believe in, and supports the creation of, good-paying jobs and economic development for Buffalo County.  He said nearly 200 people, a majority from the county, recently attended the company's job fair at the Cochrane-Fountain City School and expressed a strong desire to work with Glacier Sands.

Steinmetz said the company will continue to work with the county and explore viable ways to balance responsible mining with job creation for the communities of Buffalo County.
