A Glacier Sands plan to buy mining lease agreements for extraction of some 50 million tons of frac sand from a dozen landowners in Buffalo County was dealt another setback in obtaining zoning permits.
    
The Menomonie based company established a year ago said it would continue to explore viable ways of reaching mining agreements in Buffalo County    Glacier Sands said it was disappointed by the Buffalo County Board of Adjustment's rejection last week of a Seven Sands mining operation in the town of Montana.
         
Owners of the company said they intended to continue working with Buffalo County to find ways to "balance responsible mining" with creating new jobs and growth.
    
R & J Rolling Acres, LLC, of Gilmanton, has a 15 year Buffalo County conditional use permit for Glacier Sands to mine frac-sand and operate a sand washing facility.  The permit was granted before a moratorium was put in place.
