Winona High Wins Key Big Nine Conference Match, Cotter Also Wins

The Winona High volleyball team won a battle for second place last night beating Rochester John Marshall 3-0. Two of the three sets went to extra points with the Winhawks winning 25-19, 29-27 and 28-26. Winona High had a balanced hitting attack led by Ellen Blacklock’s 12 kills. Audrey Scharmer and Cassidy Bittle both had 11 kills while Scharmer added 14 digs.
Winona High is now tied with Rochester Mayo for second place in the Big Nine Conference at 5-1 while Owatonna leads at 6-0. Winona High improves to 17-3 on the season.
Cotter picked up its second HVL victory last night beating Pine Island 3-2. Katie Nachtigal had nine kills while Gabby Bowlin had 25 digs. Cotter is 3-15 overall and 2-8 in the HVL.
