Caledonia Swimming Pool

The effort to raise $1.7 million for a new Caledonia aquatic center is off to a good start.

Organizers announced Thursday they had raised $909,500 during the silent phase of the campaign and will now increase their public efforts to raise the remaining funds.  The campaign was sparked by a $400,000 pledge from the Caledonia City Council last February that will not cause an increase in city property taxes.

The new pool will serve the Caledonia, Brownsville, Eitzen, Freeburg, and Houston areas.  Ellen Hongerholt, with Crescendo Consulting of Houston, which is managing the project, said the new pool will be located at the site of the current pool.

Hongerholt said the project will be adding a $190,000 150 foot water slide without increasing the $1.7 million goal. Other changes will also be added to the design to save about $100,000.
