A Houston County township has stopped further development of a frac sand mine operation by declaring a one-year moratorium.
                 
The Tri-County Record reports the Yucatan Township Board voted 2-to-1 in favor of the moratorium.

That action stops the development of a frac sand mine along Highway 16.

The board also decided to form a study group of township residents to create a comprehensive land use plan and research sand mining issues.
