Deputy Police Chief Tom Williams said a man claiming to be a state gambling inspector entered Cheater's Bar in downtown Winona Thursday and asked to inspect the charitable pulltab collections.
Williams said an employee allowed the man to go through the pulltab boxes. A while later the man said he had to retrieve something from his vehicle and left the bar. Williams said the man never returned.
He said the bar manager waited some five hours to report the incident thinking the man would return. An undisclosed amount of money was discovered missing.
Williams said the man was described only as being about 45 years old, weighing about 225 pounds with a grayish scruffy beard and no mustache. If you have any information that could help police find the man you are asked to call the Law Enforcement Center or Winona Area Crime Stoppers where you can remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward.
The Crime Stoppers number is 457-6530.
