Thoms will talk about water wars. Competition for water has produced an array of environmental, economic and social impacts. There have been more than 100 instances of armed conflict associated with water around the world in the last 50 years.
Thoms is the Director of the Riverine Landscapes Research Laboratory and Chair of the department of geography and environmental science at the University of New England. He is an internationally recognized scientist in the field of river ecosystems.
