Marriage Amendment Divorces Catholic Support For Land Stewardship Project

The Catholic Diocese of Winona has withdrawn its financial support for Land Stewardship Project...citing LSP's membership in statewide organizations which have declared their opposition to the proposed constitutional amendment that would define marriage in Minnesota as solely between one man and one woman.

First reported in the online newspaper MinnPost, the diocese is withholding $48,000 in grant funding for Land Stewardship Project, an organization which helps beginning farmers and rural Latino communities.  The conservative Catholic group American Life League was among the first to call attention to LSP's membership in the Minnesota Council of NonProfits and TakeAction Minnesota.  Both oppose the marriage amendment.  The group also cites financial support by LSP Director George Boody for Planned Parenthood and PFUND, a Twin Cities based gay rights organization.

Winona Radio has requested a statement from the diocese about Land Stewardship Project.  We'll pass it along as soon as we receive one.
