Marriage Amendment Tendrils

Both Land Stewardship Project and the Winona Catholic diocese have now released statements about  the dispute that has arisen over diocesan funding for the rural non-profit.  Both are saying they hope they might be able to heal the rift.

The Winona Diocese says that Land Stewardship is in “material breach of contract” arising from its membership in Take Action Minnesota.  The result is the withholding of a $48,000 grant for the group's work with rural families and minority groups.
Take Action Minnesota calls itself "Minnesota's largest grassroots organization" with 26 member agencie, including Land Stewardship.  Take Action Minnesota has come out in opposition to Minnesota's proposed Marriage Amendment which is strongly supported by the Catholic Church.  Individually, Land Stewardship Project has taken no stance on the proposal.

Doug Nopar with Land Stewardship Project says he has been in contact with church officials at both the local and national levels.  He says his group and the Winona diocese have worked together for decades.

Having said that he says Land Stewardship Project will continue its work with or without support from the Catholic Church.  Nopar says Land Stewardship stands by its affiliation with Take Action Minnesota.
