The Minnesota Department of Transportation has received $542,000 in federal grants for southeastern Minnesota.
The Post Bulletin in Rochester reports the money will be used to help continue to drive down the number of traffic fatalities in southeastern Minnesota. MinnDOT says the funds will be used to support seat belt use education programs, and programs to promote driving at safe speeds plus reducing the number of drunk drivers.
Annual traffic deaths in southeastern Minnesota have steadily declined form 80 in 2003 to 39 in 2011.
