In an election that was not closely followed Winona District Judge Jeffrey Thompson this week was re-elected to a third 6-year term.  Thompson ran unopposed and received nearly 18,000 votes.
                   
He was appointed a Third Judicial District Judge in 1998 and was elected to the judgeship in 2000, 2006 and now 2012.  Prior to his appointment, Judge Thompson served as an assistant Winona County attorney, and as the Rice County Attorney.
                  
Winona County has two other district judges chambered here but neither were up for re-election.

90.6% percent of the eligible voters in Winona County cast ballots this time around compared to an exact same percentage who voted in the 2008 presidential election.
                    
The total voters were 26,769 out of the 29,545 eligible voters.
