Fire Chief Lyle Peterson told Winona Radio News when they arrived the large shed was fully engulfed in flames with the roof caving in and a wall about to collapse. Peterson said a large combine and some other equipment inside the shed were destroyed.
According to Peterson, Donley smelled heat in the shed when he entered about 5:00 a.m. When Donley moved some hay bales a fire flared up. Peterson said some 500 round bales of hay were also destroyed inside the shed but firefighters were able to save some other bales that were next to the shed and some bales that were stacked nearby.
He called the shed and its contents a total loss. There were no injuries reported and no other buildings damaged. Firefighters remained on the scenefor about three hours.
