Winona police officers were kept busy early Tuesday issuing tickets to violators of the alternate side parking ordinance. During the first night of enforcement 362 tickets were issued with the majority of those tickets issued in the central part of the city, including the Winona State University area.
At $25 per ticket, that means the city would collect 9-thousand-50 dollars in fines if all of those fines are paid. The ordinance is being enforced two weeks later than in the past and the hours of enforcement have been extended to between midnight and 6:30 a.m.
Police continue to remind vehicle owners to park on the even side of the street on even-numbered dates and on the odd side of the street on odd-numbered dates. And remember, the ordinance is only enforced between midnight and 6:30 a.m. Some streets in the city are exempted from the enforcement.
