A half-percent sales tax collected by Buffalo County has averaged 585-thousand dollars annually, down from its high mark at 605-thousand dollars in 2007 five years ago.
The sales tax is a measure of business and tourism growth in Buffalo County, the revenue used to help offset cost of county services.
The sales tax generated 595-thousand dollars in 2011 and amounted to 295-thousand dollars at the halfway mark in 2012, about the same pace as in 2011.
Normally, the biggest months for sales tax collections in Buffalo County have been August, June, December, September, May and April. Those months average collections of 50-thousand dollars or more.
