Winona Police said a Winona couple were struck by a car Friday at the intersection of Main and Mark Streets.
                
Police Sargent Chris Nelson identified the couple as 77-year-old Norman Sobiesk and his wife 74-year-old Claire Sobiesk.  Nelson said the couple were crossing Mark Street, southbound in the crosswalk, at its intersection with Main, when they were struck by a vehicle driven by 47-year-old Timothy Allen Thelen also of Winona.
               
Nelson said Thelen told police he was travelling about five miles an hour eastbound on Mark coming to a stop when he was blinded by the sun.  Nelson said Claire Sobiesk was knocked to the ground but Norman was not.  Claire was taken to Winona Health by ambulance.  The incident was reported at 7:44 a.m.
