Police said a 26-year-old Winona man suffered serious injuries in downtown Winona late Saturday when he was assaulted by another man.  Police cited Joseph Christopher Vessels, also of Winona with, preliminary felony third degree felony assault after the incident that was reported at 11:33 p.m. at Third and Market Streets.
                  
They said the victim was punched and when he fell to the ground was kicked.  Deputy Police Chief Tom, Williams said the victim sustained some broken teeth and bleeding on the brain and was transferred to a La Crosse hospital.
