The Winona City Council tabled an agenda item Monday that would have given eligible city employees to take advantage of a phased retirement option.
                     
City Manager Judy Bodway told the council the option would give the employee a chance to still collect their pension but continue working part time and possibly train their replacement.

Councilman Gerry Krage wondered where the cost savings to the city was, considering another employee would most likely need to be hired.

The offer of phased retirement would only be done on a year by year basis and for no longer than 5 years.
