Car vs Pedestrians--Charges

Criminal charges have been filed against a 47 year old  Winona man whose vehicle struck two pedestrians in Winona on November 16th.

Police Sargent Gary Hoeppner said Timothy Allen Thelen is now facing charges of failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and  being unable to show proof of insurance on his vehicle.

77 year old Norman Sobiesk and his 74 year old wife Claire Sobiesk were both struck by a vehicle driven by Thelen as they were crossing Mark Street at its intersection with Main Street.  Both were in the crosswalk at the time, just before 8:00 a.m.

Norman Sobiesk was not seriously injured while Claire was knocked to the ground. She was taken to a La Crosse hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Thelen is scheduled to make his initial court appearance on the charges on December 17th.  Thelen had told authorities, according to a complaint, that he was slowing down when he approached the intersection and had been blinded by the early morning sun.
