The US Army Corps of Engineers has announced that Lock and Dam Six at Trempealeau will be shut down next Sunday as it prepares for winter maintenance. The Corps says the lock will be dewatered for maintenance work which will include repairing concrete, repairing, sand blasting and painting the lock gates, and replacing the bubbler system.
Each of the locks and dams undergoes rehabilitative work every 15 to 20 years. The last time the Trempealeau lock was dewatered was in 1994. Lock Six is scheduled to be reopened on March 11th. Because of the closure, the Corps says, all locks and dams above Trempealeau will be closed down on December 3rd.
