Winona High Girls Lose Season Opener



The Winona High girls’ basketball team lost its season opener to Red Wing 78-56. Red Wing got out quickly last night opening the game on a 24-9 run. The Wingers, who have made it to the last two Class 3A state tournaments, were playing their third game of the season already.

Dulcey Milek got hot for the Winhawks hitting four three-pointers while finishing with 24 points. Audrey Scharmer was also in double figures with ten points despite sitting a lot of the first half with two fouls. Last year’s leading scorer Ellen Blacklock was held without a field goal and finished with three points. Blacklock did grab ten rebounds and blocked three shots.

UW-Green Bay recruit Tesha Buck led the Wingers with 27 points.
