The Winona County Board of Commissioners Tuesday approved a resolution to designate County Finance Director Pat Moga as "first assistant" to conduct the county auditor-treasurer duties when current Auditor-Treasurer Sue Rivers retires on Friday.
County Attorney Karin Sonneman suggested a change in language to the resolution to make it clear Moga would supervise the department only until the board can appoint someone to serve the rest of Rivers' term. River's term expires in 2014, when there will be an election to fill the position.
During a committee-of-the board meeting following the regular meeting, the board announced they would be voting next month for a pay freeze on their own salaries for 2013. Commissioners have taken no salary increases over the past couple of years.
