The Saint Mary’s women used their defense to pick up a 54-47 win over St. Olaf. The Cardinals forced the Oles into 24 turnovers and held them to just 32 percent shooting. Saint Mary’s also had trouble shooting the ball and won the game despite shooting under 30 percent from the field. Jessica Thone was the only Cardinal in double figures with 11 points and she also grabbed eight rebounds and had five assists. Saint Mary’s is now 3-0 for the first time since the 2004-2005 season.
The Saint Mary’s men played their third straight game without leading scorer Michael Burfeind(Buhr-find) and lost to St. Olaf 80-62. A couple of freshman led the way for Saint Mary’s. Mark Schumacher hit all three of his three-pointers and finished with 19 points while St. Charles graduate Will Swiggim had 11 points and 10 rebounds. The Cardinals fall to 0-4 on the season.
