NCPTC-Gunderson

The National Child Protection Training Center in Winona and Gunderson Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse announced what is believed to be a first of its kind collaboration in the country.  The two will work together to provide child abuse protection training and now the treatment of victims.

The training center's founder Victor Vieth said the center located  on the Winona State University campus has trained over 70,000 child protection professionals in its ten years of operation, and now is the time to join with Gunderson to begin to train and work with healthcare professionals who treat the victims.

Dr. Jeff Thompson, pediatrician and Gunderson CEO, said there is an opportunity and obligation take the training further and collaboration fits well with Gunderson's mission.  The affiliation is expected to be complete in 2013. By then programs and treatments will be developed for healthcare professionals who deal with the medical needs of victims and their families.

Vieth said in its first ten years the center has trained professionals in all 50 states and 17 countries.
