The Winona Area Public School Board Thursday heard from the Jefferson Elementary Principal on the latest student achievement efforts.
Mathew Nelson told the board a math specialist is helping work toward common assessments that show kid's progress.
Nelson says one size does not fit all in elementary reading and the new level libraries in the schools are helping students gain confidence and enjoy reading more.
The board also received an update on the financial impact of the district's withdrawal from the Hiawatha Valley Education District, which occurred last July 1st.
To date the district has saved $461,500, with most of the savings coming from salary costs, increased revenue from the federal government and savings on employee benefits.
