Merchants Bank has gone over the two million pound overall mark as the 24th Annual Ten Days of Giving Food Drive nears an end. Spokesman Mark Metzler says as of Monday the bank had a grand total of just over 2.016 pounds of food donated.
The total this year so far is 98,100 pounds. That includes 5,646 pounds of actual food and $46,230 in cash. The bank calculates every dollar in cash to be equal to two pounds of food.
The donations will go to the Winona County Foodshelves operated by Winona Volunteer Services, and Executive Director Sandra Burke told a Winona Radio audience that if people are in need of assistance this holiday season, it's there for the asking.
While the drive officially comes to an end Monday donations can still be made at all Merchant's local and area bank locations as well as Volunteer Services and the Food Center located in St. Charles which will also share some of the proceeds.
Donations from the over 150 businesses and over 30 schools, which are part of the drive, will be collected this week before a final total for the 2012 drive is determined.
