County Tax Levy

The Winona County Board of Commissioners made it official when board members voted unanimously to decrease the county's 2013 property tax levy by six percent.

That reflects a reduction of about one million dollars in the levy and about three million in the county's overall budget. Board Chair Mena Kaehler said the board was able to accomplish that by not using any reserves.

County Administrator Duane Hebert said the board's action means that county residents will pay a different county tax levy figure than what they see on their recently received property tax statements because those statements were based on a preliminary zero percent levy increase set in September.

The board also approved the county's 2013 budget of $44.8 million.
