A 10 member special committee has been appointed in Alma to study creative ideas for enhancing the city's historic public stairways.
The Alma City Council affirmed committee appointments recommended by Mayor Robert Scow and the city's Utilities Committee. Scow will serve on the Stairways Committee with city council members Jim Wilkie and Larry Farl. Wilkie chairs the Utilities Committee.
The committee's first meeting was scheduled for 6 p.m. on Dec. 17 at Alma City Hall.
Alma has seven steep-sloped concrete stairways connecting downtown Main Street with the higher elevated Second Street rising above it.
