Sanders--Assault

Winona Police are asking the Winona County Attorney's office to charge a 40 year old Winona man with felony second degree assault following an incident that occurred early Saturday.

Deputy Police Chief Tom Williams said police are also seeking two other assault charges, plus obstruction, and interfering with a 911 call against Scott Wayne Sanders.  Williams said the charges stem from a incident at a residence in the 900 block of East Seventh Street just after 2:00 a.m. Saturday.

He said Sanders is alleged to have struck both a 23 year old female and a 21 year old male with an 18 inch hard plastic tube. The male had to be treated at Winona Health for a laceration on his head and a bloody nose.

Williams said the incident stemmed from a disagreement.  Police ended up breaking in the screen of the door of the residence in order to get inside and apprehend Sanders. Sanders was being held in jail.
