Wesley United Methodist Church in Winona, has made a grant to the Old Main Historical and Community Arts Center in Galesville for college music students to perform in the center's historic auditorium.
The auditorium centerpiece is a Steinway grand piano built in 1915 that Old Main acquired in 2011. The grant will provide a stipend to the first three college students or student groups who offer performances at Old Main. The grant is to be matched by other gifts for additional performances.
The stipend will be available to students from Winona State, St. Mary's University, U W La Crosse, Viterbo University, Luther College, and U W Eau Claire. The Old Main audience has already heard performances from Dr. Eric Brisson, associate professor of music at Winona State and others.
The student performances will be offered in a series of events called "Gale Star Music Night" to be held Fridays at 7:30 p.m. between February 22 and June 1 with another season to be planned for the fall.
The season will include benefit performances from other regional musicians. You can contact Rev. Jim Riley at 608-582-3618 if you are a prospective performer or if you would like to offer a donation to help with the "Gale Star Music Night" event series.
