Winona County Roads Treacherous

Winona County Sheriff Dave Brand is asking people to not get out in the snowstorm and drive unless they absolutely have to.

Brand says as of noon today the county squad cars and Minnesota State Highway Patrol have been swamped with reports of cars and trucks in ditchs and various accidents. Brand says there have been no serious injuries reported yet but says roads around the county are very treacherous and advises no travel unless it's an emergency situation.

Forecasters expect as much as 10 inches of snow to complicate travel in Winona and surrounding counties.

Sustained winds of 20 to 35 mph with gusts of up to 50 mph are expected to whip up blizzard conditions. A blizzard warning for Winona, Olmsted, Fillmore and Houston counties is in effect until midnight.
